Translations of technical documents with texts from the various fields of electrical engineering, telecommunications, the automotive industry, software & hardware (IT), heavy machinery and construction etc., require in-depth knowledge, education, and experience. Such texts must be understandable, absolutely technically correct and include terms that are accurate and currently used in the specific industry. My work is based on these facts.

Therefore I don't belong to the group of translators who translate text word by word and I don't translate texts that fall outside my specialty. To ensure the accuracy and correctness of the texts I use not only dictionaries, (on-line) glossaries, termbases or internet search engines. I also interact with external consultants and experts. Sometimes I have to verify the function of a device and consult about the issue at the client's or manufacturer's location.

Technical translations
  • I am able to translate everything from simple documents to voluminous technical manuals and complex technical documentation in more than 70 different file formats.
  • For each project I use previously prepared and approved glossaries or terminology databases which subsequently ensure consistent terminology throughout the whole translation. The use of translation CAT tools (such as SDL Trados Studio) which increase my productivity while delivering significant savings to the client is an obvious part of my professional services.
  • In case there are some doubts, inaccuracies or even errors in the source text I ask the client to answer questions in a list that I submit during or before finishing the translation.
  • Before sending to the client each translation undergoes a two-phase check of grammar, punctuation or misspellings, numbers, units, the use of uniform terminology throughout the whole project or tags.
Proofreading & editing
  • By proofreading the already translated texts I ensure that the final documents are error-free and perfectly flawless. I compare the source text with the target text and check it not only in terms of grammar, spelling, punctuation or typing but also in terms of content and factual correctness.
  • During proofreading I check the correct use of technical terms or whether the used terminology corresponds to client's line of bussiness. This may require the right terminology glossary which I can request in advance from the client or which I can prepare myself.
  • Documents translated into English are proofread by native speakers.
Localization of software, applications or websites
  • By localizing texts that are used, for example, on websites, computer applications or tools, I greatly increase the value of the end product.
  • I focus mainly on localization of graphical user interfaces (GUI), in other words interfaces between device and user. These are mainly software texts or strings displayed on a monitor, display or screen, for example, of electronic measuring equipment, laboratory equipment, satellite navigation, machine tools, diagnostic systems, agricultural and construction machines, etc.
  • I also localize manuals, descriptions, workshop manuals, service manuals, and other documentation related to the operation and use of instruments and equipment.
My achievements

For me, success is any positive feedback or a thank you from my client for a well-translated document or project. I find it a success if I observe a growing demand for products or services of clients who have also used my services for improving their position on the market. Examples of my work include large projects, such as translation and proofreading of more than 5,000 standard pages (SP = approx. 250 words) for CNH Industrial (Case, New Holland and Steyr) - construction and agricultural machinery manufacturer, more than 4,000 SP for Suzuki (translation of user manuals for all models of motorcycles, ATVs and passenger cars), more than 3,000 SP for Philip Morris (manufacturer of tobacco products) or more than 2,000 SP for Océ / Canon / Ricoh (printing systems manufacturer).
